Skype Account Hacked – Word Of Warning!

June 27th, 2008 by Richelo Killian ·

I use Skype quite a lot, and use it for business as well.

Earlier today, I get a message pop-up from Skype saying for security reasons my password has been changed. Ok, no problems I think, that is good of them. I should get an email from them shortly with my new password.

Now, as I phone a lot from Skype as well, I have setup auto payment from PayPal once the account drops below a certain amount.

Next thing, I get TWO payment notifications from PayPal, stating I paid £23 to Skype, so, totaling £46!

Now I KNEW my Skype account was hacked!

I went into PayPal, cancelled the auto payment to Skype, and changed my password.

Next, I went to Skype, to retrieve my password, but, the useless idiots who hacked my account changed the email address as well!

I opened a support case with Skype, and am now waiting for them to get back to me!

Let this be a warning to you all! Change ALL password REGULARLY, and make it HARD passwords!

Hope I don’t have to open PayPal disputes to get the funds back for those 2 transactions as well!

You probably have a key logging virus on your computer that is ercording all of your passwords. If not, you may want to avoid using “password” as your password. :-)

  2. Hey Jim,

Have been in IT for MANY years, so, NOT using any easy passwords. Only use LONG passwords, with mix of letters, numbers and characters.

I have Zone Alarm pro, which scans my PC live, so, no password logger. Have not entered my Skype password for AGES anyway!

Nope, this was either a brute force hack, or, somehow they got Skype backend access. Who knows!

    Cheers

I suppose that someone has got your e-mail password and he know your skype ID. So he can read your emails and he can reset your skype password.

I had exactly the same experience today – a pop up note that my Skype password had been changed, and my attempt to reconnect to my Skype account failed because the e-mail address has been changed. I’m logged into Skype using my wife’s account currently, and it shows that “I” am online. At least I have the satisfaction of calling the hacker every 20 second, so my account isn’t all the useful to him at present.

No word back from Skype yet. I hope I get my account restored shortly.

Same thing happen to me Skype account hacked
Someone has hijacked my skype account called all over the middle east and used my skype credits and continues to try and charge my credit card on file for more credits. I have written skype 6 times in the last 4 days and no one is responding. This hijacker also hijacked my primary email, changed the passwords, open my emails, got bank information and more. Within 24 hours Microsoft reset the passwords and got me back into my email, while Skype does nothing, not even a confirmation my request was heard.

The response from Skype is very typical of all EBAY companies. Ebay and it’s sister companies don’t give a ….. about cutomers and this includes Paypal. Rather than helping victoms they treat you like a criminal. Now I have to deal with all my customers that have been trying to reach me through skype and cannot get through.

This is a nightmare. I removed the hacked bank account and credit card from my paypal account to keep the hijacker from accessing the account and Paypal now tries to threaten me with account closure because I won’t put another bank and credit card on file LOL how sad Ebay companies are.

i will speak by my experience: how can someone hack my password and enter my Skype? if i didn’t give him or tell him or he use the history of my computer my saved passwords of e-mails etc…etc… Skype is secure and every time you give “sign out” he don’t keep saved passwords except the username that user been logged. Other situation for example let say you registered Skype with one password, you registered e-mail with different password, and if the hacker knows that password on Skype and he can change it and used it by himself, but if the real user simply if not allowed to enter in his Skype, will loking for reseting the password on his mail or simply will change it on skype website. So simple couldn’t be easy :) so my advice for every user -Sign In, users with valid e-mail and use different password for Skype than your e-mail password you are 100% protected… Cheers!!!
